So, the switch to Joomla! wasn’t too difficult actually. I mean, the physical switch. I was able to change my host server without any hiccups. Well, technically speaking, there is a small hiccup because on my local host it isn’t working 100% correctly. However, for the sake of time and sanity, I chose to overlook the small error and hopefully I get around to trouble shooting it soon. (Basically, the menus aren’t working correctly on the back-end interface, which makes it difficult to see and understand that I’m changing things correctly. I’ve had to work on my site directly a bit more than I’d like, but it’s workable for the moment.)
The switch to Joomla! on my actual live website was super easy! I’m thankful for that. It’s always nice to have something go off without a hitch. If only the switch in my head was so easy! I went back through our weekly assignments and did the research again, just going the Joomla! route. I’ve found that my classmates blogs have been a great help to me. For instance, Nancy has been a big help and pointed me in the right direction initially. You can see her comment here. Paul’s Sheepishly Blogging was very helpful in my switchover as well. So, thank you Joomla! bloggers. You rock!
I had just started involving myself in the WP community and had signed up on the WordPress Forums already. So, for the switch, I signed up with Joomla! Forums. In loading modules and plugins on my site, I have also signed up for JoomlaCode Forums, Community Builder Forums, and JForce. I prefer to keep my username the same, if possible, so I can be recognized across forums if need be. For anyone interested:

Glad to help point you in the right direction…actually, this last week I started another Joomla site and had to go waaaay back through my notes to remember how to enable the login module, how to setup on the server…..it wasn’t THAT long ago, but it seemed like ages ago. I don’t know Jforce…will have to check that one out. You are really catching up very quickly!

Hey there Marissa!
I’m impressed! You’re catching up pretty fast considering you have dealt with the big SICK and have a family to care for. You and all moms who juggle this kind of schedule deserve an accolade … that’s praise, not an alcoholic beverage.
Your trouble with the menus on your local server has to do with the current version of Joomla! not being compatible with the version of PHP that the XAMP program uses (the current version of Joomla uses PHP 4.something and the XAMP program uses 5.something). To “fix” the problem, I was directed by the Joomla staff to download an earlier version of XAMP to work with Joomla until the new version of Joomla comes out. I’m thinking about just ignoring the menu problem and creating a general template\content on the local, then uploading my works to the host and finishing the menu editing from there … at least until the new version of Joomla comes out. I know “real” programmers frown at working with a live version of a site (host side rather than local), but for something small like the menus, I think it’s okay. Here is the post I sent to the Joomla support forum if you want to check it out: Menu Error in Localhost
